Nils Olof Iwar Donnér, born 31 March 1884 in Sölvesborg, Blekinge, died 27 May 1964 in Great Church Parish, Stockholm City, Uppland.
Iwar Donnér was a Swedish journalist and artist
He was the son of Mayor August Donnér and Alma Lundgren and married first time in 1915 with Kätchen Maria Looft and second time from 1930 with Astrid Cassel.
Donnér worked in his youth as a seaman and during a trip was employed at a shipping broker's office in Liverpool. He later studied art for Carl Wilhelmson at Valand's art school in Gothenburg as well as in Stockholm, Oslo and Copenhagen. He lived in Paris from 1920-1922 and 1924-1925 and then took the opportunity to study for André Lhote and Arogeau. He traveled around the Mediterranean countries and Africa from 1927 to 1928 where he, among other things, depicted the ship Gripsholm. He exhibited separately in Stockholm in 1940 and then exhibited in a number of Swedish cities. He participated annually from 1940 in Sweden's public art association's exhibitions.
His art consists of portrayals from the archipelago, west coast landscapes and portraits in various techniques. As an illustrator and cartoonist, he was an employee of Politiken and in 1948 published the book Gripsholm's Mediterranean voyage in 1928 containing 15 lithographs and 60 caricatures. In addition to his own creation, he worked as a journalist in Sweden, Norway and Denmark, where he lived in 1910-1920.
Donnér is represented at the State Historical Museum, Norrköping Art Museum, Kalmar County Museum, Västerås Art Museum, Waldemarsudde and at the museum in Oslo.
