An early morning at Stockholm stream. During his last years, Yngve Berg became depressed and thought most of what he did was rubbish. He threw a lot. But if he recalled this painting of the castle and the stream with the fisherman, well then it will take a lot to have something critical to say. An extremely talented artist who captured Stockholm's soul in a timeless manner.

Yngve Berg, born December 23, 1887 in Stockholm, died July 19, 1963 in Engelbrekt, Stockholm City , Uppland.
Yngve Berg was a Swedish artist and book illustrator. He was the son of Fridtjuv Berg.
Berg studied at the Gothenburg Museum, Drawing and Painting School in 1906-07, stayed in Paris 1908-13 and traveled in Spain in 1910 and 1913. He made himself known primarily as a cartoonist: Cleopatra (26 posters in 1913), Spanish (illustrated travelogues; 1915), Carl Michael Bellman's Fredman songs and Fredman's epistles (1917-18). He also illustrated Karl Asplund's En monksaga (1918), performed a few decorations and costume drawings for Rabindranath Tagore's "Chitra" and more for the Intima theater (1921) and performed decorative murals (Bellman's fantasies) in Stadshuskällaren in Stockholm (1922).
Among his later works are illustrations for Ovid's The Art of Love (1925, 1957), Goethe's Roman elegies (1929) and Bo Bergman's Stockholm poems (1947). Yngve Berg also drew a first version of Stockholm's coat of arms, based on a wooden statue of Erik the Holy in Roslagsbro church in Roslagen. Berg was an art critic in Dagens Nyheter 1931-55 and curator of the Thielska gallery 1949-60.
Berg was also involved in the interior decoration of Villa Bonnier in Diplomatstaden, Stockholm. The National Portrait Collection at Gripsholm Castle contains a self-portrait in breast image. Berg is represented at, among others, the National Museum in Stockholm.
