When Erik Ölmebo made this poster for Visby, he caught that little extra, it which you may think is obvious. And it IS, but only when you see it. The sea, the sky, the passenger boat heading towards the small, clear, city surrounded by the yellow fields.
If you close your eyes, it is just as many of us see and experience Visby. Hi Erik!

Erik Alfred Fritiof Ölmebo, born 16 May 1907 in Åhm in Ölme, died 4 January 1997 in Karlstad
Erik was a Swedish artist
Ölmebo completed the real-life exam in Kristinehamn with a big A in drawing. His teacher felt that he should continue his education, but the economy was impeding further education. With the help of a study grant fund, he was able to apply to the Higher Art Industrial School in Stockholm, but when the last year was to start, the support was withdrawn. He then received an offer from Carin Carlsson to decorate the Green Lantern exhibition restaurant for three days at Kristinehamn Fair in 1937. The salary for this work became a base plate to save the last year at the art industrial school. After completing schooling in 1938 he was hired as a volunteer at the advertising agency Svea in Stockholm, in 1943 he started at Rygård's advertising agency but already in 1944 moved to Gummelius's newly opened office in Jönköping. In 1953 he was hired as studio manager at the Swedish Telegram Agency in Karlstad, where he worked until his retirement in 1972.
As an easel painter, he considered himself an autodidact and he started this kind of art practice on vacant hours only at the age of 40.
Among his public works is a poster for the Marshall Aid 1952, main posters for De Blinda, tourist posters for Visby and Gotland, 18 meter wall stained glass for Kronoberg basement in Stockholm and sketches for the decoration of two Sara restaurants in Stockholm.
Ölmebo is represented at Värmland's museum, Säffle municipality and Wärmlands Enskilda Bank.
