LARS CARLSSON 1921 - 2002

Erik Forsman, born March 3, 1921 in Falköping, Västergötland, died December 18, 2002 in Sävare, Lidköping, Västergötland.
He was a Swedish illustrator, best known for his large production of Christmas cards and other greeting cards. He has also illustrated and written children's books with a Christmas theme. His pictures are signed Lars Carlson, Lasse, LC, Fingal, CL or Marie.

Lars Carlson was born in Västergötland and grew up in Dalarna. He started his career as an errand boy and got temporary work as a decorator. He was then employed as a porcelain decorator at Rörstrand porcelain factory. He started painting Christmas cards in the late 1940s. In his old age he lived in Arvika. Carlson donated a large part of his original pictures to Arvika municipality in 2000.
The publishing rights for most of his pictures are held by the Alrik Hedlund Group.

In the first decades of the 20th century, bonads were printed from painted models. Diligent artists were Erik Forsman, Jenny Nyström, Curt Nyström, Lars Carlsson and Aina Stenberg-Masolle and others
These have today become major collectors' items and then much because of nostalgia for the Swedish Christmas.
